Acne Scars
Acne scars originate from the long¬ lasting inflammation caused by acne. Acne scars occur most frequently in those with moderate acne to severe acne. It remains unknown why some people develop acne scars when others don’t.

Treatment. Many treatment options are available to diminish the acne scars’ appearance. Depending on the type (depressed or raised) and severity of scarring, improvement can be seen in 4 to 6 weeks.

Treatment for Depressed Acne Scars:
• Acne scar surgery
• Resurfacing: Laser therapy, chemical peeling, dermabrasion, microdermabrsion
• Fillers
• Skin tightening
• Collagen-induction therapy, aka needling
• Electrodesiccation

Treatment for Raised Acne Scars:
• Injections (corticosteroids, interferon, 5-FU, etc.)
• Acne scar surgery
• Laser therapy
• Cryosurgery
• Scar creams and gels, silicone (dressing and bandages)

Age Spots
Solar lentigines can go by many names, such as “age spots”, “brown spots”, “liver spots” and “sun spots”. Regardless of what you may call them, these spots have one cause: exposure to the sun. Especially for people with light skin, the cells in our skin that causes pigmentation to protect us from the sun, called melanocytes, can be damaged by overexposure to the sun, causing a deposit of the pigment melanin to form, resulting in a solar lentigo. They often form in areas most prone to sun exposure, such as the face, neck, arms, hands, and upper back and chest. Treatments for these spots include a variety of lasers, and are usually very effective in minimizing or eliminating the appearance of solar lentigines.
Aging Hands
Aging skin loses its underlying layers of fat, and the production of collagen and elastin fibers slows. As a result, the skin loses its fullness and starts to sag. It starts to develop the following characteristics:
• Thinning of skin
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Darkened spots called lentigines
• Dryer and susceptible to itching

Treatment. You have options. We can effectively lighten or remove age spots on your hands with:
• Cryotherapy (freezing)
• Laser therapy
• Chemical peeling
• Microdermabrasion
• Skin-lightening creams and lotions

Broken Capillaries [Spider Veins]
Broken capillaries, “spider veins”, are small blood vessels that have become dilated and appear on the surface of the skin. They are most commonly found on the legs but can appear anywhere on the body, including the face, breasts, and hands. These dilated blood vessels are usually flat and red, and look like a spider web or a tree with branches. Spider veins are generally harmless, but on rare occasions they can indicate a disorder of the veins.

Causes. The exact cause of spider and varicose veins remains unknown, but several factors, including pregnancy, and a family history of spider veins can increase a person’s chance of developing spider veins.

Treatment. Treatment for spider veins include:
• Sclerotherapy – the most common treatment
• Laser treatments
• Electrodessication

Facial Volume Loss
As we age, our skin undergoes a number of changes affecting its texture, volume, and appearance. Fortunately, dermatologists can use fillers or lasers to correct the most notable signs of aging and can recommend skin care products with added ingredients that can further repair damaged skin.

Treatment. Treatment for volume loss include:
• Fillers
• Lasers
• Skin care products

Fine Lines/Wrinkles
One of the most noticed, and complained about, skin conditions today is the presence of fine lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process as the elastic bands in your skin begin to break down, hindering your skin’s ability to retain moisture. Simultaneously, the fat underneath our skin layers begins to deplete, eventually causing folds and creases in the skin, or wrinkles. There have been many advances made in just the last several years to minimize the look of wrinkles, from injections to dermal fillers to microdermabrasion. There are also effective means of preventing wrinkles from occurring in the first place, but the most important ways are simply to protect your skin by avoiding sun exposure and smoking.
One of the advances in technology that Advanced Skin and Laser Center utilizes is Ultherapy. Focused ultrasound energy is delivered non-invasively and heats deep tissue without affecting the surface of the skin. This causes a natural, regenerative response. Unlike other types of ultrasound, there will be a sensation of heat. After Ultherapy, weak collagen is reorganized and strengthened by the growth of new collagen, which tightens and lifts the skin. Ultherapy is the only non-invasive, FDA-approved procedure to lift the brow, chin, neck, and chest using ultrasound technology that stimulates elastin production deep within the skin. Working from the inside out, Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin to the same foundational layer typically addressed in a surgical facelift. Most clients see immediate results and there will be a continual tightening of the skin over the next 2-3 months.
Hair Loss
Hair loss is a common complaint among our patients, both men and women. Although is it normal to shed hairs each day, excessive hair loss can lead to a thinning hairline, and areas of baldness.

Causes. Here are some of the causes of hair loss:
• Malepattern and Femailpattern baldness
• Alopecia areata
• Extreme stress
• Hormonal problems
• Postpartum hair loss
• Certain medications
• Fungal infections
• Excessive tension on the hair

Treatment. Hair loss treatment are recommended based on several variables, including the type of hair loss, the degree of hair loss, your gender, and your personal preferences. Treatments include:
• Medications, such as Minoxidil (Rogaine®) and Finasteride (Propecia®) and in some clinical cases, injections of corticosteroids or Anthralin.
• Hair Surgery
• Wigs and Hairpieces

Melasma is a skin condition in which dark patches appear on the face (forehead, cheeks, and upper lip). It is due to excessive pigment (melanin) collecting in the skin. The dark patches usually have distinct edges and are symmetrical (similar on both sides of the face). When it occurs during pregnancy, it is often referred to as “chloasma” or the “mask of pregnancy.”
Melasma is very common and occurs in up to six million American women. Although people with melasma may be concerned about its appearance, it is a harmless condition that causes no other health problems.

Treatment. Treatment results vary greatly among individuals. Your recommended treatment will depend largely on your type of melasma, dermal or epidermal. Here are the types of treatment available
Medications: Called “bleaching” or “depigmenting” agents that cause skin to stop making melanin. These include Hydroquinone, topical retinoids and TriLuma
Procedures: These may include chemical peels, dermabrasion, or lasers. Fractional lasers have been found to be particularly effective for some types of melisma

Scars are areas of skin that have been wounded and replaced by fibrous tissue that does not resemble the surrounding skin. It may appear darker or lighter or have a variety of shapes, often resembling the initial wound.

Scarring is a natural part of the healing process after injury to the dermis (the deep, thick layer of skin). Most wounds after accident, disease, or surgery results in some degree of scarring. Injury to the upper layer of skin, the epidermis, does not result in scarring. This is why uncomplicated cases of chickenpox or poison oak rashes that do not become infected do not usually result in scars.

Treatment. It is important to point out that many home remedies or over¬-the¬-counter treatments are ineffective at reducing the size or appearance of scars. Here are the effective methods:
• Chemical peels
• Dermal fillers
• Dermabrasion
• Laser treatment
• Corticosteroid injections
• Surgery

Skin Laxity
Skin laxity of the lower face, specifically the jowls, jawline, and neck, is a frequent cosmetic concern of patients and a common topic in a cosmetic consultation. The range of laxity can vary between mild and hardly noticeable, to a “bulldog” type appearance in which the skin is visibly sagging.

• Radiofrequency microneedling
• Microfocused ultrasound
• Fillers

Spider Veins
When you see red or blue marks resembling spider webs or tree branches on a body part (commonly the legs and face), these are typically spider veins. Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but smaller and closer to the surface of the skin, while varicose veins are larger and deeper. Veins act as a way to get blood from body parts back to the heart, and come with one-way flaps to prevent blood from flowing backwards. If these flaps deteriorate or malfunction, blood can flow back into the veins and pool there, causing the visual effect of spider veins. This condition is usually associated with age and obesity, but can also be affected by hormone changes, smoking, heredity and sun overexposure. Several treatments for spider veins exist, including laser-based solutions and sclerotherapy, where a saline solution is injected into the vein in order to close it.
Stretch Marks
Stretch marks, also known as striae, are typically caused when growth or weight gain causes skin to stretch beyond its normal limit of elasticity. The rapid skin expansion results in an off-hue stria, usually a blue or red color. Though stretch marks are usually associated with obesity, they can occur during any period of rapid growth or skin expansion, such as rapid muscle growth, a “growth spurt” during puberty, or pregnancy. Though stretch marks do not pose a health risk, and do not indicate any inability for the skin to heal or stretch, they are a common cosmetic worry, and treatments for stretch marks do exist, including laser treatments and dermabrasion.
Sun Damage
While many people think of a bronzed complexion as being “healthier” than a lighter complexion, there is actually no one single factor more responsible for cosmetic and medical skin conditions than sun exposure. Repeated overexposure to the sun without proper protection such as sunscreen can lead to a wide variety of conditions, including uneven pigmentation, lentigines (age spots), solar elastosis (which causes sagging skin and vertical wrinkles), melasma, poikiloderma (reddish-brown pigmentation on the neck or cheeks), solar keratoses, and of course, skin cancer.

Some people with tattoos may later choose to have one or all of them removed. Fortunately, there are safe and effective methods to successfully remove them.

Because the location, color, shape and size of each tattoo is unique, the removal procedure must be personalized to suit each person. For instance, tattoos applied by non¬professionals may be more difficult to remove because the dye may penetrate different layers of skin whereas professionally applied tattoos are usually more uniform. Darker inks (deep blue or black) are more difficult to remove than colored inks. Some newer inks and colors may be difficult to remove entirely.

The most common methods for removing tattoos are:
Laser treatment. The type of laser used depends upon the colors of the tattoo. In most cases, multiple treatments will be required.
Dermabrasion. Uses a rapidly-rotating brush to remove the topmost layer of skin.
Surgical excision. The tattoo is removed with a scalpel and the wound is closed with stitches.

Unwanted Facial or Body Hair
Laser hair removal is a safe, effective, and convenient alternative to other methods. Lasers can treat large areas quickly, often in the time it takes to shave. Improvements may be seen after only one treatment, but repeat treatments are usually required to achieve desired results.

We are proud to offer Vectus Laser Hair Removal. The Vectus® Laser is a dedicated, reliable, and powerful solution for high-volume hair removal. It allows aesthetic practitioners to easily treat the large and growing population of people seeking a fast, permanent way to remove unwanted hair.

Platelet-Rich Plasma [PRP] for hair loss and skin rejuvenation
How Is a PRP Treatment Performed? PRP therapy for hair growth is a fast outpatient procedure, taking one hour. The procedure involves the doctor taking a small blood sample from the patient and storing it in a test tube. Then, the sample is spun in a centrifuge at high speeds to separate the platelets and other blood components, creating the platelet-rich plasma. The scalp is prepared before the PRP is reintroduced into the scalp where hair growth is weakest. Immediately after the painless injections, a microneedling device may be used to create tiny areas of trauma on the scalp, further prompting the discharge of the growth factors in the platelets and enhancing their impact on cellular activities around the follicles.

Is PRP for Me? You could be a candidate for PRP hair regeneration therapy if you suffer from weakening hair quality, decreasing hair volume, loss of scalp coverage or increased hair shedding. However, it is recommended that you undergo a comprehensive, detailed medical evaluation for this hair loss.

PRP has been a successful treatment for many years in other surgical and medical fields. The decision to get PRP treatment is a personal decision, and you should only make it after doing research, consulting your doctor on the matter and carefully considering if it fits your needs. This treatment is natural and safe because it takes the healthy cells from your scalp and reintroduces them where they are needed most. There is no possibility of contracting an infection from other people because PRP only uses your blood cells, and the cells are never changed or altered. Your immune system also will not reject the injections.
