A native of Kentucky, John Q. Binhlam, MD, FAAO, received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University (VU). Feeling the call to pursue Medicine after dealing with serious illnesses in his father, Dr. Binhlam pursued his journey to understand illnesses and help people when he attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

Dr. Binhlam later completed his Internal Medicine residency at Indiana University before returning to VU to pursue his subspecialty residency in Medical and Surgical Dermatology.

Dr. Binhlam is an active mentor and educator of medical students, residents, and other physicians. He has served in various societal leadership positions; most notably, as past-President of the Nashville Dermatology Society, the Tennessee Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the national American Society of Mohs Surgery.

As a strong advocate for patient health and rights, he regularly participates in advocacy efforts on behalf of the American Academy of Dermatology Association and the One Voice Against Cancer Coalition.
