Board Certified Dermatologist

A native of Kentucky, John Q. Binhlam, MD, FAAD, received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University (VU) in Computer Science and Mathematics. He then felt the call to pursue medicine, which led him to the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Binhlam later completed his Internal Medicine residency at Indiana University before returning to VU to pursue his subspecialty residency in Medical and Surgical Dermatology. Dr. Binhlam is an active mentor and educator of medical students, residents, and other physicians. He has served in various societal leadership positions; most notably, as past-President of the Nashville Dermatology Society, the Tennessee Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the national American Society of Mohs Surgery. As a strong advocate for patient health and rights, he regularly participates in lobbying efforts on behalf of the American Academy of Dermatology Association and the One Voice Against Cancer Coalition. In his spare time, Dr. Binhlam is a golf hacker; yet, remains supremely dedicated to his four-legged child, a spunky Westie, Abby Sugarpie.

We are delighted to introduce our patients and community to C Drew Claudel, MD. A native of southwest Louisiana, he attended McNeese State University and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biological & Environmental Sciences. He completed medical school training at LSU Health Science Center (Shreveport, La.) before moving to Nashville to complete his Dermatology residency at Vanderbilt University. He then completed additional formal fellowship training at LSU Medical Center (New Orleans, La) in skin cancer treatment and surgical reconstruction from the accredited American College of Mohs Surgery before moving back to the Nashville area to start his practice. After a successful 20 years of practice with Rivergate Dermatology (Goodlettsville, TN), he and his wife decided to test the waters in the Sunshine State of Florida. Missing the seasons, hills, and people of the great state of Tennessee, he returned to Nashville to join forces with his longtime friend and colleague, Dr. John Binhlam, at Advanced Skin & Laser Center in Brentwood.

Dr. Claudel is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). His memberships also include the Tennessee Medical Association, Florida Medical Society, Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and Florida Society for Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery.  He supports his favorite charities: The American Cancer Society, Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, St Jude, VFW, Youth Villages, ASPCA, and Goodwill.

On a personal note, Dr. Claudel’s wife, Keri (aka Nashville Beauty Girl) is an RN and works in the skin industry as a cosmetic nurse injector. They enjoy gardening, traveling and boating, and spending time with their children when they are home from college as well as their spoiled pug, June Bug.
