What is Juvederm® Voluma?
Voluma is a hyaluronic acid filler in the Juvederm family of products. Hyaluronic acid is a common component to the second layer of the skin, and it helps provide structure to the skin. Voluma, as it name infers, helps provide volume to areas of the face that have deflated and become sunken over time. Some call Voluma a liquid facelift.
How is Voluma different from other hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm or Restylane?
Voluma has a much different consistency from other earlier generation products like Juvederm Ultra or Restylane. It is composed of shorter chains of hyaluronic acid with significant connections or “cross links.” In general, the more crosslinks, the greater the lifting power of a hyaluronic acid filler. This gives Voluma superior lifting capacity for sagging tissues compared to many other injectables. Juvederm® Voluma also has some free chains of hyaluronic acid that do not have crosslinks. This allows softness and pliability to the product so that it can be molded in place.
