SCULPTRA
Since 1999 Sculptra has been used under the name New-Fill in Europe to treat wrinkles and contour irregularities of the face. It has recently been approved by the FDA in the U.S. for the restoration and/or correction of facial fat loss for those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This fat loss, or lipoatrophy, can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes.
Sculptra is a synthetic material injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. The injected material stimulates the body to produce new collagen, which results in a gradual increase in skin thickness. No skin testing is required prior to use. However, Sculptra should not be injected if you have an active skin infection or inflammation in the intended treatment area.
Sculptra stimulates the body's own collagen growth and more than one treatment session will be required to achieve the optimal result. This new and exciting product has been called “the liquid facelift". Sculptra’s major advantage is that it can last up to two years. Touch-up treatments may be needed at that time to maintain the desired effect.
