Oh, the weather outside is frightful........
With the changing of the season, comes changing of the skin. Excitement isn’t the only thing filling the air during the fall and winter months. Subtle changes occur in the fall, and before you know it, the bitterness of winter weather is here and your skin is not nearly as excited as you are about the change. Your skin will need extra moisturizing to ward off the itching, flaking, and dryness that accompany winter winds and cold temperatures. Lips, hands, legs, cheeks, and elbows are the areas most affected.
To get through winter successfully, your skin needs to be soft, yet strong…able to withstand the many changes fall/winter weather sends your way. In fact, skin has to fight a daily battle against the drying effects of the environment. This drying effect is worse in the winter because the air has less relative humidity during the winter months than in the summer and the skin becomes dry more rapidly despite the air feeling damper.
Coming into a warm room from the cold outdoors often restores a rosy glow to the skin and softens it to some degree. This is due to the blood vessels in the skin opening up in the warmth. But keep in mind, although a warm, toasty room feels great when it's cold outside, it can be as moisture-depleting as the harsh cold outside.
Because we can’t hibernate in the winter, a good skin care regimen is the answer to outdoor exposure. Creams, lotions, ointments, and the like are not the only means of protection. SBR Lipocream
